Motion Trio, the formidable Polish accordion trio, create a striking form of music, blending the fire of Eastern European roots music with the icy precision of the great classical composers. Called the 'Trio Infernal' by fans for their intense, impassioned sound, Motion Trio have been praised by such modern masters as Michael Nyman and Joe Zawinul.
Formed in 1996, Motion Trio has developed from buskers on the streets of Poland into a world-renowned outfit bending the rules of Classical music and Eastern European folk. Lead by Janusz Wojtarowicz, Motion Trio plays Janusz's original compositions which draw on both his classical training in Krakow's celebrated observatories and the traditional music of Central and Eastern Europe. The Trio has toured widely and, while doing so, brought in dynamic shades from rock and techno. To hear Motion Trio in concert is akin to experiencing a Paganini recital combined with a Metallica concert. They achieve incredibly intense performances without employing anything but their accordions: no guitars, no drums, no samplers, no loops or tricks - Motion Trio are musicians who have honed their skills to the very highest degree able to rely only on talent and imagination to ensure they are one of the most exciting live bands working anywhere today.
In 2000 Motion won 1st prize in the category 'Trio' and the 'Grand Prix' at the 4th Krzysztof Penderecki International Competition of Contemporary Music in Krakow. The same year the Polish Media voted them 'Best Debut Act of the year'. The CD "PICTURES" published in Poland in 2000 swept the critics of their feet: 'PICTURES' was awarded with the Grand Prix of the Polish music industry and voted CD of the Year 2000.
